Friday Rambles and Game Dev Update 2025-05-23

It's the fourth (but not last!) Friday Rambles of May. Hey. Soon it'll be June, and the halfway point of 2025. That's right, this is 2025, and it's middle aged. Feeling old yet?

Gamedev Stuff

I finally made a new website. I spent a few hours looking up frameworks and site builders like Squarespace or Wix and various CMS services and so on, but eventually just decided to go with something simple and fast (and free), which is just building my own site and hosting it on one of my web servers.

It took me a couple days, but I think the result is pretty good. Not exactly cutting-edge web design, but I think it's clean and functional. Compared to before, it's far more presentable for applying to shows and potential business partnerships, and at the very least I'm not embarrassed by it. And the page loads in like, less than half a second because it's basically pure html written by hand (+a minimalist css framework). Anyway, you can see it at https://endlessmonday.com.

I also made a page for Dreams and Deadlines, too. I'm pretty happy with it, especially the screenshots section. You can click on a screenshot and it loads the enlarged version in a big modal. Wow! And it's responsive and looks good on mobile, too!

Anyway, it's easy to update and change around, so I'll gussy it up more later and add like a li'l "news" or "blog" section. It'll have an RSS feed and everything.

As far as actual game dev goes, I pushed 2.0.4 to Steam because I didn't see anything else to fix, and also submitted 1.0.4-NS for Switch for approval, so I could get it out before the Switch 2 release. Not that it really matters, because it's just a few super minor fixes. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the last patch (or at least... the second to last patch...). Really, not much else to do with this game now, other than move on, which I really wanna do at this point.

I've been using Obsidian ever since I migrated from OneNote due to Microsoft shoving a Copilot button onto my cursor whenever I started a new line, but it seriously owns. I signed up for the Obsidian Sync service this week (basically just fancy cloud sync functionality), so I could seamlessly work in Obsidian no matter where I'm at (phone, laptop, or desktop), and all my plugin/theming config are synced as well. I know I can also set up free syncing options, but here I can just set it and forget it and it just works, without dealing with other software that sucks.

But what really made me love Obsidian this week is the "Daily Note" feature combined with the Day Planner plugin. I can see all my personal calendar events in Obsidian, along with all my todo list tasks in my Daily Note, in a neat little timeline. It keeps me aware of how I'm scheduling my work around all the personal family stuff that happens through the day, and allows me to do some actual planning. And that's how I motivated myself into finishing the website this week.

I also write all my Friday Rambles in Obsidian, and copy paste it into Patreon for posting.

Yeah, I also schedule lunch. Whatever

Merch Stuff

I spent a lot of time this week in meetings and a bunch of back and forth emails for a potential merch partnership. I don't have anything else to say about it, other than, um, wish me luck. Dang, I really hope this works out.

Also, the Penny plushie Makeship page is up. You can sign up for updates, if you want! But I'll also be spamming it on social media and all the newsletters, so you probably don't have to. It'll go live on June 10. I'm timing it to coincide with a Daily Deal on the 11th and the Steam Summer Sale later in the month, so that people who visit my game on Steam can be like, "wow! I can also buy a Penny Plushie!" It's a little ways out, so I'm gonna take the opportunity to draw a lot of Penny art till then.

Aw, she's helping.

Other Stuff

I got some accessories for my Switch 2. The Switch 2 I don't have yet. But it'll need a carrying case and a screen protector when it does arrive, you know? I can't wait! To play Deltarune Ch 3-4, I mean, Endless Monday: Dreams and Deadlines on Switch 2! Less than 2 weeks left!

I'm also still waiting on things to happen on the Tokyo Game Show front. And also waiting for a lot of other things to happen, but maybe, if I get my hopes up really high, it'll all work out and I won't be disappointed at all.

My coworking space membership plan's price went up by like 20% a month (the reasoning was the discount I was given when signing up was too much or something idk) so I canceled it. I hope losing my entire subscription was worth nickel and dimeing me. But that also means I'll be working from home all of the time, but oh well. I was thinking it wasn't worth the cost, since I've been needing my big development machine lately so I've been working from home anyway, but it finally gave me the push I needed to go through with canceling it.

The End

Here in the States this weekend is a holiday weekend, and I'll be going out with the family to a far away land. Luckily I have Obsidian Sync so I can continue to work on my phone. Haha. That's a joke. And then next week I'll probably be busy doing non-gamedev related social media artist things, like drawing Penny illustrations and writing the next issue of the Endless Monday Monthly*. Hopefully after that I'll have more clarity on all the stuff I'm waiting on happening, and also my brainstorming will bear fruit and Game 2 work can progress a little bit more.

Thanks for your support, as always! See you next week.
