Friday Rambles and Game Dev Update 2025-06-13

It's the Friday the 13th Ramble. We're midway through June, everyone.

Merch Stuff

This week was the Penny Plushie Makeship campaign launch. You probably already saw it since I sent it out on Patreon a few days ago.

I don't like begging people to buy things to hit a goal or whatever. Well, it'd be different if the campaign hit the goal right away, and I could just relax and say "haha it's pretty popular, right?" But um. I mean. You know... Global trade conditions... The economy...

Yeah, times have changed since the original Skye plushie, 5 years and 5 plushies ago.

That being said, if you already bought a Penny Plushie, Thank You Thank You!! You're a real cool person, you.

Gamedev Stuff

Speaking of selling stuff, Endless Monday: Dreams and Deadlines was a Steam Daily Deal this week! That's right, the game spent 24 hours in a rotating carousel on the front page of Steam.

You know, I wish every day could be an Endless Monday Daily Deal day. At one point we were the 457th top selling game on all of Steam, according to SteamDB! Obviously, it's not Deltarune numbers, but many new people are playing the game, and will hopefully become new fans for the next one! Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it went.

Between that and the plushie campaign, I didn't get a lot of gamedev work done, but I did write a bunch of words in my brainstorming document. I'm still messing around with what I want the next story to be. It'll probably be a continuation of the OVERTIME story, but I also want it to be continue being like, office and work culture in general, but I've been so disconnected from that for so long. Idk. Maybe I'll get an office job again for more material. haha. funny joke(?).

The RPG stuff I did for the plushie campaign was a fun diversion, but I don't think it'll be the main way you play the next game. And I don't want to draw a bunch more sprites and mess up the engine even more just to support a bunch of cutscenes for gifs that no one watches.

I'm happy this gif exists, though.

Moving on... So events happened and priorities shifted in my real life and I'm no longer going to Tokyo Game Show. The timing doesn't line up. So it goes. Hopefully next year I'll have something ready to show. Well, I WILL have something ready to show, or else I'm no longer in the game business lol

Other Stuff

I finished Deltarune Ch3-4 on my Nintendo Switch 2. Cool game! Cool music! Well, now to wait for Ch 5 and 6 and 7.

I also got Mario Kart World, because I really wanted to play it. Yes, I paid full price, like some kind of rube. The idiot they blame for games being 80 dollars. Whatever!

Randomly hearing this while driving around the scenic vistas made it all worth it, though.

Also, I took a photo of a giant burger.

And a week after I bought a Switch 2, I received the Mario Kart World Switch 2 Bundle I spent two hours trying to preorder a couple months ago. I returned it. How annoying.

WWDC happened this week. Either I'm just disillusioned by tech in general, or Apple actually can't innovate ("my ass") anymore, because nothing they announced sounded useful or exciting to me. Yeah, more GenAI crap forced upon me in my OS. How original. And Windows Vista era frosted glass theming? Okay man. So much for being the anti-Microsoft. Anyway, I'm glad I didn't waste my time watching the keynote this year.

I haven't updated my iPhone or Macbook's OS since they started making their GenAI crap mandatory. 7 gigs of space I'll never get back, plus the principle of the matter. Exploit my critical security vulnerabilities if you must, I'm never updating again.

"Not-E3" also happened this week, and apparently there were like, 700 new announcements for games spread throughout like 20 different showcases. It's tough out there.

The End

Well, we survived another week. Maybe next week I'll have some things to say about Game 2. I'm still holding onto hope for an announcement by the time TGS rolls around, like I planned before. I've been dealing with a lot of distractions and other stuff in real life lately (not just due to video games), but hopefully I'll be able to sit down and focus for an extended period of time for once. Thanks for your support, as always. See you next week!
