Friday Rambles and Game Dev Update 2025-08-29

It's the fifth and final Friday Ramble of August 2025. It's actually Saturday here, but it's still Friday in California.

Also, apparently it's the 200th Ramble. Yowza. That's a lot of words.

Game Dev Stuff

I did work! By work I mean I went to a monthly indie dev meetup in Seoul. That's right! I went to the August edition of Seoul Indies.

It was a good time and I talked shop with a lot of cool devs! It was kind of a more quiet/intimate vibe than Tokyo Indies when I went last year, which had more like a club-like ambiance. I miss living in a big city where I could just go to things like this.

I had accidentally left my business cards back at my home base (which is like 4 hours away) like some kind of silly airhead (uguu~) so before I went to the meetup I walked to the business card store 2 minutes away from my hotel and got some made in 10 minutes. Convenient.

So yeah, there you go. Good a time to buy as any, if you want to enjoy the fruits of my Nintendo Switch version making labors. Yes! It's a perfect port that works perfectly! It's my favorite version! It even has an achievements system I made just for the Switch!

Otherwise, I did some story writing for Game 2. I wrote in my notebook, while chilling in a cafe, pretending to be a cool cityman. I had to break in my new pens.

Not Game Dev Stuff

That's right! I got new pens.

I got a Jetstream Edge 3 Multipen, two Zebra Mildliners, and a bunch of Jetstream 0.5mm refills. Cost less than half what it would in the States. Anyway these will come in handy when I need to write something in my notebook. Maybe sometimes I'll feel edgy and want to use the Jetstream Edge. Maybe sometimes I'll need blue ink and use the Edge 3 multi. You know? Well, now I'm in the market for a nice pen pouch. And maybe a mechanical pencil for sketching. Or two. There are so many cool looking mechanical pencils... rOtring 600 I'm looking at you...

In the city I've been walking like 15-20k steps every day just going from place to place, but it's also kind of undergoing a major heat wave right now, so it's kinda like a hard mode. Still enjoying it, though. I think I'm like 95% recovered from my sinus thing, so I'm feeling pretty good.

I learned that Fangamer is doing a popup shop in Seoul. Cool!

But it starts like 5 days after I leave. Not cool! Can't believe I'm missing it by just this much! At least I'll still be able to go to the Tokyo store next month. But one thing I found quite awesome is that they got local artists to animate and produce the trailers for the event.

On a completely unrelated note, new merch things are happening, and I've genuinely never been so excited about merch in my life. I can't wait to share!! Stay tuned!! Of course, when it happens I won't shut up about it, so you'll know anyway.
