Doing backgrounds was one of my weakest sides. Before I used to avoid drawing them by simplifying them or by using and editing anime screencaps.
Even though I often feel like I'm not progressing and learning slowly, today I realized that almost all the new commissions I've done are included in the environment. And I have done these backgrounds. Yes with the huge help of image references, Clips studio assets, 3d online assets. But every line and stroke was made by me, every window and cell was painted by me. Although I still don't understand perspective, and the backgrounds don't look super cool. I am truly delighted and proud of myself. Now when I make a sketch I know that at any moment I can make a background and the character will look organic in it. Also thanks to the clients who come up with ideas for commissions. Without you I wouldn't be able to do this, I would just draw the same poses, staying in my comfort zone without backgrounds.
