From what I understand, even if he had interests of being of opposite gender, he didn't take any Action in that matter. (Openly said) and the whole magic Deal "enforced" it to be a girl. In a way it is Manipulation, even if it is done in good beliefs. But thats only the "realistic" perspective. What becomes next is the artists decision.
