While going through my hardrive to ensure nothing was lost in the recent data corruption scare I had, I came across some old comics I never finished.
One of them of them was about dating non-artists during my time in college.
Life drawing is a big part of drawing - even with cartoons. In order to break the rules of anatomy and proportions, gestures and expressions, you must first learn them.
Life drawing classes were one thing, but once a week drawing old men and ladies was never enough, I needed variety in ages, body types and genders. I would often ask friends to pose for me and even hired models to pose. Dating at this time proved hard because my partners were CONVINCED it was a sexual thing.
I did a lot better than the girls in my life drawing class though, 2 girls dropped out of the class after their boyfriends protested and forced them to leave, for the same reason. It's awful and really showed me how jealousy completely destroys rational lines of thinking if left to run totally rampant. I'm hoping it didn't ruin those girls' future in art.
