Binkov's Newsletter, December 2019

Hi, my dear Patron!

And welcome to the last Binkov's newsletter of this kind. In the coming weeks we will be switching to the new model of Patreon reward tiers, which we talked about in our previous newsletter. So the newsletter reward will also see some changes. It will be split into regular schedule updates and occasional messages on other news pertaining to our channel, when they become actual.

The reward tiers themselves have also seen some changes and are, currently as follows:

$1 tier: upload of videos without any integrated ads, to be hosted on a platform not showing any ads.

$2 tier: monthly poll access, helping us pick new video topics.

& access to our monthly schedule update

$5 tier: early access to videos (again no ads), currently it's usually 2 days early. We'll try to make it even a bit earlier in the future.

$12 tier: Early access to the script of our upcoming video. Usually a few weeks before the video is out, as the video is still being animated.

& Your name in the credits section of the video.

You'll get notified of the big change on the Patreon a few days earlier, via a post there. Keep in mind, if you're already in one of the mentioned tiers, changes will be automatic. If you wish to switch to different rewards, meaning a different tier, you need to do that yourself.

Onto other things. You may have noticed something a bit different with out South Korea vs Japan video. Yes, it was in HD (1080p). Finally, Binkov is making some steps in that direction. For now, it was an one off trial. A few of our upcoming videos will still be in HDV resolution (720p). But we're definitely going in the direction of switching to full HD, so perhaps sometime in January you'll start seeing more an more of our videos in high resolution. It has its downsides, of course, as we need to make a lot of our visual resources fit that standard. And it'd more demanding on our hardware, to render all that. But we think we can pull it off. Of course, various third party images and videos that we use have their own resolutions so it may be at times that the video materials from some military exercise, for example, will be in lesser resolution than our own animation.

If you're wondering when will we switch to 4K resolution - don't hold your breath. :D

And now for our upcoming schedule :)

This Friday we're on track to release video exploring Turkey's ambitions concerning a nuclear weapons program. Just how long might they need to get nukes? What routes might they take to get them? We hope we've covered all that.

A week after that we're releasing "Is Radar stealth both crucial and overhyped" video? (the exact title may still change). it's the first of the two videos in our series on radar stealth and stealth planes. This first part will avoid the technical science stuff and concentrate more on tactical, fiscal and operational pros and cons. The second part, hopefully to be released in January, will cover the more science-y stuff.

Then, in the first half of January we'll release "Could the modern day Luftwaffe win the Battle of Britain (1940)". Interesting exploration of both today's Luftwaffe and modern technology in the specific situation of Battle of Britain. Of course, it'll also cover some of the basics of the actual BoB, for those who're not familiar with it.

Until next time, have yourself some happy holidays!

Salutations!
