The miracle of VCR interpolation

"Killers II" is out!! Give it a watch if you haven't already!

The pictures above are a very exclusive look into a giga discovery that was made while coloring the panels; VCR interpolation! Basically, my spritework has been able to benefit from the VCR's composite signal much like old 16-bit games used to. There was some extra secret sauce applied to the VCR's settings to add some interesting gradients, which helps explain why the colors in the actual sprites look so weird.

Fortunately, I'm able to duplicate my screen with the VCR's 'monitor,' so I can work on the sprite on my normal screen while seeing the VCR output in real time. I absolutely want to explore this further and see just how hard I can push the medium.

Now that Killers II is finally done, I need to make another podcast!

I like to use the XP version of MSpaint (the modern one adds antialiasing) at 400%-800% zoom. I'll then upscale the sprites with Aseprite, which is pretty dang cheap software.

What do you use to make your pixel art? I am designing a game from scratch with my 9 yr old and I need to create pixel images of his characters.
