i thought about either freezing them or shocking them... both are thematically fitting and also kinda understandable or "realistic"

and tempest cleric is the better subclass imo.

The point is that you can’t compare the features. One is a Wis mod per long rest reaction, the other is a BA you could theoretically do 100 times per Wild Shape. Tempest Cleric feature SHOULD be stronger

tempest has a much stronger feature imo and can also move enemies away . its no contest , however tempest fits the storm theme much more then the sea druid. so for sea theme sea druid wins.

I think it’s crazy for Insight Check to compare Wrath of the Sea to Tempest Cleric’s Wrath of the Storm - that’s a Wis mod per Long Rest reaction vs a bonus action ability granted by a 10 minute Wild Shape. You can do the Druid’s one exponentially more times per day than the Cleric one. Madness

Wish I'd see the original, but definitely think this was still a great response. I think it's with noting that Insight Check's videos are generally pretty good, definitely just dropped the ball on this one.

I thought the video was excellent and well argued. I have two minor comments:
First, one way in which the feature conflicts with conjure woodland beings is that spell's bonus action disengage. When a player wishes to leave an enemy without being opportunity attacked, they face a choice between a guaranteed disengage with CWB, and a 50-50 "disengage" with benefits from the class feature. If the player uses the feature on an enemy who makes the save, that will feel bad.
Second, I think you slightly understate the disadvantage of going into melee. Wearing medium armor and a shield is nice, but druids still lack default access to the shield spell and only have d8 hitpoints. Furthermore, even if the druid is one of the better PCs to stand in melee, it is often optimal to try to keep every PC at range. (Perhaps less so in the 2024 edition with the changes to melee vs ranged martial damage. I agree that is probably good for the game overall.)
Anyway thanks for the great video and keep them coming!

I thought the subclass looked awesome from playtest on so I don’t get that either! Next Druid I want to play is this!

Great video. And way to stay true to yourself in tone. I enjoy a confrontation video as well, but you get to decide what you want your public persona to be. Bravo.

It’s funny yesterday when I watched the original I was thinking damn Chris is popping off and I love it!!!
I don’t have a problem with the original and I think your first take was definitely better in the case of how you spoke about players using items in the DMG I agree completely. I hate when players build their characters around magic items instead of their own class features.
Great video regardless, but the first one did remind me of the play test Monk reaction video and how red his face got lol

Chris, you missed one big one as far as I’m concerned. People use to take Telekinetic just to get a 5ft push effect for their BA. This one requires you to be closer but that rider still exists and people used to always say how great that was for having something to do with your BA.

I think you really need to post this video right away to YouTube and make it available to all.
If you wait 2 weeks, then the video will loose some relevance.
You wanna hit the market while its buzzing with sea druid!

This video is exactly why I am a Patreon of Treantmonk.
Other content creators often end up with one of two conclusions: "something sucks hard" or "something is super overpowered".
Treantmonks video are so nuanced. Keel up the good work!
I happened to have watched both the videos you refer to, before you posted this. I was very frustrated when watching those videos. Thank you for putting this out and nuancing the perspective of the DND community.

Okay -- Any technical differences between the two versions that would warrant watching the new version? If not, I may watch the new version later and compare it with my memory of the initial version for an etiquette lesson.

I thought it was a cool/good subclass when I read it but then I saw people I think are smart saying it was bad so I just assumed I had misunderstood something (I was planning to go reread it and see where I misunderstood) . Gotta have more confidence I guess. Thanks for breaking it down.
