2019-03-04 19:43:08 +0000 UTCThere's an extra layer in Rich Mullins responding to Joyce with "what would YOU have said to Becky," because his doctrine on that was identical to Joyce's at the start of the strip -- that it was a sin, but that's not remarkable because everybody else sins. Mullins has been praised for not being absolutely evil on this topic, but it still wasn't a great response. I've been sent a lot of articles since the start of this sequence about how Mullins was Really Good About Gay People Actually, but I think they were grading him on a curve. But would he have learned better over time if he had lived? I dunno. Joyce is realizing the difference between her and Rich Mullins is that while both had similar, crappy beliefs, Joyce is given the unfair advantage of being able to grow out of them. Rich Mullins cannot. Rich Mullins is dead. anyway i had lots of thoughts about this sequence and not all of them fit neatly into the strips
