Eh. Some people find it relaxing to be told what to do. Joyce comes from a subculture that has severely impaired her critical thinking and ability to survive in the ‘real world’, so having Dorothy handle everything probably feels natural for her. We’re now seeing her push back against that, though, which is interesting!

2022-12-20 11:06:39 +0000 UTCI don't get the Dorothy x Joyce shipping, I wouldn't be able to handle being constantly mothered. Like when Joyce spilled on the atheism by accident, Joe was there, watching and ready to take whatever role he needed to for Joyce, where Dorothy pushed on Joyce to try to make amends with Becky immediately. It wasn't about what Joyce needed to do in that moment, but what Dorothy -thought- Joyce needed to do. Like, stand back and let Joyce live her life.

Yes, there are similarities, but Joyce's infatuations with Ethan and Jacob were predestined to crash and burn for all sorts of obvious reasons. Joyce and Joe are obviously attracted to each other, and the only existing attachments either one has are to their own insecurities. Not an insignificant factor by any means, but right now they both seem to be on the same page. (At least until Joyce finds out about what almost happened with Liz...)

2022-12-19 15:11:29 +0000 UTCThis feels like the same thing with Ethan and Jacob. Joyce becomes infatuated with a large, good hearted man and eventually it leads to the relationship falling apart before it really becomes a thing. I hope there’s a subversion this time.
