The really doubtful part is the claim that these other salt components have any effect whatsoever on cleaning the body. For that matter, while in a straight taste test, the tongue can detect a difference, that will probably be lost among all the other flavors when used on a dish. Chefs usually favor sea salt more for the larger physical size of its flakes or grains (easier to sprinkle by hand accurately and consistently) than because they care about its chemical content or taste.

2023-01-22 14:35:06 +0000 UTCFor the record, commercially available sea salts, while mostly NaCl, do usually contain some other sulfate and chloride salts, and it does vary with where and how you get the seawater. In principle, the human tongue is certainly capable of detecting a difference between 90% NaCl/10% other salts and nearly-pure NaCl (table salt), though it will be subtle in this case since the 10% is relatively similar minerals.

2023-01-09 20:00:13 +0000 UTCNot related to cleaning power, probably, but most salt sold for human consumption has iodine added to help prevent goiter. The tsunami in Japan the other year screwed up the iodine supply, so some poor countries stop adding it because of the price.
