For some reason this is reminding me of back in the 90s my ex telling me that her father was impressed by me telling him that I loved her. I professed ignorance, and she told me what I'd done: I called her parents' house looking for her and gotten her father who told me she wasn't there and asked if I wanted to leave a message. "Eh, just tell her I love her and I'll call her later." I'd inadvertently professed my love for his daughter without realizing it.
