I do wonder whose clothes are in that dryer, since they were already there when Joyce and Dorothy got there. It could backfire pretty quickly on Dorothy if that's Joe's dryer.

I feel like any actual doing of the deed will be on Joyce’s own time… I’m almost expecting the next strip to be Dotty just calling attention to how the dryer feels? Like yeah, that’s not gonna get Joyce off, but I don’t think Dorothy wants to make Joyce orgasm in the laundry room. I think this is more about introducing Joyce to the concept of what shit feels like down there, and talking about how it works so Joyce can then apply it on her own. At least- that’s how I think the scene would go Best. Of course, I think it will backfire on Dorothy and only make Joyce more eager and more confident with Joe.

Maybe she's a Never Nude.

Suzanne

Honest question: What does Joyce think that the word "naked" means?

Rob McBobson

Man, ain't no drama like internet comments drama.

What’s a little communal JO between friends

All joking aside, I have huge respect for the man, managing to maintain such a long buffer and such a straight poker face. Is it a silly webcomic about disaster teens and their unusually tumultuous times at college? Sure, but it's also how he feeds his wife and kids, and his professionalism shines through more often than not. I've gotta wonder whether or not this storyline is uncomfortable for him. All characters come from somewhere inside their author, but Joyce and her parents are a dramatized genderbent self-insert, right? There's no telling from the outside how much is a translation of deeply personal experiences and how much is sheer artistic fabrication.

With all the tense feelings lately in some of the comments (both Patreon and main site), I do wonder how Willis feels sitting on like six months of strips, knowing where things are going, but probably not wanting to spoil the story.

You're doing girlstuff with Dotty, Joyce. I don't think you're leaving anytime soon

also i think it's just better for the comic on a qualitative level if it's allowed to take shortcuts and trust its audience because some of the dialogue has been getting a little overtechnical and wordy lately, and i think that's 100% down to increasing audience distrust, sorry, i still love this comic to bits but i had to get that in there

Yeah you know what fine I'm gonna say something. Comics are allowed to take shortcuts. They're allowed to be funny. They are, especially ones that are heavily serialized and dependent on audience recall, allowed to trust their audiences to fill in certain blanks. Joyce has no problem putting her foot down. She has no problem making a scene. She's yelled and punched and kicked and screamed. The last person who sexually assaulted her got a scar running half the length of his face. If she really, seriously, did not want to be here, if she thought Dorothy was being skeevy or invasive or inappropriate, this arc would be going very differently. Joyce's discomfort has been framed entirely in terms of her fear of being perceived as a sexual being. Her objections are not that she does not want to do this with Dorothy but that this is, in some sense, a violation of her sense of self, in much the same way that Becky wanted to be intimate with Dina but needed to be convinced that that was an acceptable way for her to be. (Indeed, last we saw Becky, she was helping Joyce down this road!) And I think, honestly, y'all should be smart enough to clock this. We know Joyce and Dorothy well enough now that we can intuit what happens in the gaps between comics. We know Dorothy probably made sure Joyce was okay in between Joyce screaming and walking to the laundry room. We know sometimes Joyce freakouts are sometimes momentary overreactions and not, like, red-panel trauma markers. And we know, because the last time we saw Joyce was her screaming at Dorothy, that Joyce would tell Dorothy to fudge off and flip her the almost-double-deuces if she felt that strongly. Like. This is not a difficult puzzle to put together. We should not have to see, in excruciating detail, Joyce's boundaries being perfectly, flawlessly navigated. Twelve years of comics have done that work for us. And, like, look. I know sexual agency and coercion and all of this stuff is touchy! I know that each of us are probably bringing our own baggage to the table. And I know for a lot of you, a friend doing this would be uncomfortable or traumatic. And that's fine! No judgement! I myself have some bad experiences in this area. But I think it's good, and healthy, to unhinge those bad experiences from the text, and try and look at it as it was intended.

Welcome to the capitalist dystopia! Would you like to use the credit card on file to auto load credit onto your laundry card?

Vivian

Wait hold on we've all been ignoring something far fouler. Are they CHARGING students to use washers and driers?

If It Bleeds

...One would hope they'd head back to one of their rooms before that point. Well, that or we discover Dorothy's secret exhibitionist side, but that seems rather unlikely, even in this already unlikely scenario.

C

Is...there an implied "yet" to Dorothy's final line, there?

Daniel Kelly

It probably works best with top-loaded washing machines with unbalanced loads.

Packy Anderson

for this to actually work, the dryer would have to be very old, modern dryers tend not to vibrate much, and even then, not at a rate that many women would really get off too most of the time. I did check around for this information and asked women who have tried it, and they reported little stimulation from a dryer, but they did say they had better luck with washing machines that were either overloaded or had heavy loads. This plan kept making me scratch my head because the physics don't really work according to a lot of women i asked about this, even in the kink community.
