I see the problem more being that Dorothy has high standards for herself but would never be able to meet those standards in office. Worse, she would be the face of a system that mostly only benefits rich white people. Considering how invested she gets in fixing other people's problems, I think that would break her. I take your point that Dorothy would probably make a better president than most though, but imo this is more about her coming to terms with her own personal limits. If she ignores them, she'll eventually go into serious burnout (which is a certainty given how much fraying we already see at her edges) I'd be on board with Dorothy and Yale if she took like, a year off and just tried to be a person for a while and still wanted it though.

Dorothy was too innocent and was caught off guard by Raidah’s first strike. Hopefully there aren’t any other sweet cinnamon rolls at risk of same this morning. (Lucy, sitting on a school bus seat): *Giggle!* I’m in danger!

I know DoA characters aren't author mouthpieces, and so nobody's word should be considered "the last word" on anything. But something still gets my back up about Dorothy buying into the narrative that "There has never been a good American president." (Raidah or Roz, sure. Dorothy...?) It seems like it's a hair's breadth from "power inevitably corrupts," which is a fine sentiment except that it keeps anyone who wants to be good from pursuing power. And I'm aware that every president including Washington has done things worth calling out, so let's take that discussion as read. It seems to me that if your standard of "good" is so high that no one can meet it in the history of leading the nation from which you probably take your values, then your standard of "good" is so high as to be forever out of reach. If you can't do some wrong with the aim to do more right, then you end up doing nothing at all--like giving up an education that could give you a shot at real power, just because you don't like the REASON you might've gotten it. Do you want to yield the field to those who only care about winning? Because this is how you yield the field to those who only care about winning. (At least when Robin threw her congressional race, it was with confidence that Jake Manley would help people in her place.) I'm cool with whatever story David wants to tell in terms of who gets together, who stays together, and who breaks up...but at this point, I'm shipping Dorothy HARD with Yale.

Dorothy's dream to be president feels like that of a much younger person; one who was told that all she has to do is get good grades, be very nice, and show that she has basic leadership skills and she will have a more than 50/50 shot at being President of the United States. And a lot of her problems as I've seen pop up are when she is confronted with the reality of what it actually takes to be successful in politics at all, let alone become president. That she needs to be charismatic, she needs to be able to compromise, and she needs to be able to play the proverbial game to move in the political world. At no point has she demonstrated any of the actual qualities needed to be successful in politics aside from being on the moral high road, and as she has seen herself that means nothing when people flock to those who can connect easily with their emotions. What she genuinely does have as skills is her organizational acumen, and the ability to perform well in extremely stressful situations, and that is an admirable quality to have and put on your resume--political or otherwise. I hope Dorothy comes out of this with a respect to the reality of what her ambitions require of her, and that she's willing to forge on to achieve them regardless. I also hope a comically dressed clown walks up and smashes Raidah in the face with a banana cream pie.

As for imperialism, global average income is about $12,000. Anyone making more than that per year, perhaps even 2,3,5,10x more is on some level taking “more than their fair share”. That can create resentment, and a global military helps the USA secure this advantageous (“exploitative”, according to some) arrangement. The poorest countries make a few hundred dollars a month. Poverty is a good source of resentment and violence. I doubt many Americans have any interest in giving up their advantages. Can’t say I do. But I don’t use a fig leaf to say I’m offended, offended I say, about the system that grants said advantages to Americans.

dorothy is too good for this world but also specifically the office of president of the united states of america

The US Military has the Law of Armed Conflict that specifically forbids attacking civilians. Theaters have Rules of Engagement that often say they’re not even allowed to open fire until fired upon first. Obvious violations of this are punished. It’s a far cry from say Russia’s tacit or explicit approval to shoot people in the back of the head in Bucha. Everyone, including Raidah, who knows the us military uses lethal force but stays in the US anyway has decided it’s not a dealbreaker and benefits from it. Raidah isn’t particularly holy just because she disdains the people making the calls she benefits from.

Also, I would love Dana to stop back by, but I don't know that would fit in with the rest of Willis's story.

I cannot WAIT to see Raidah taken down a few

Onyx

Although, Raidah's goal is to be a lawyer - is she planning on keeping herself pristinely clean? Not if this is any indication.
