The read I’m getting is just a strong tendency to go all the way into the zone and hyperfocus on phones or thoughts of seahorses. That’s me when I’m in the zone gaming, people can say my name and it sounds like I’m underwater and someone far away might be saying something. Maybe Charlie just tends to be semi-permanently in the zone and hyper focused.

She blanks on everything around her, and there’s a strong implication this is not something she wants. I wonder if the character is supposed to be having petit mal seizures? Still, Carla’s futile campaign to get Charlie’s attention is hysterically funny.
