she gets what she wants

Comments

A day late, I came back to express my appreciation for Danny's line re:rules. It's something I say a lot myself! And oh, isn't it horrible to see parts of our parents in ourselves.

Alexandra Falk

Charles' comment about her being perceptive makes me wonder about his thoughts on some of their arguments. I mean, he's made racially tinged comments to Sal too so it's not just Linda, but I wonder if there's other stuff he has noticed

Exhibit B. Sal picked up smoking from her

It's... kind of awful that they need a white man to show up and tell them nice things about their daughter before they're willing to start accepting or believing those things, though.

Sal: Mom, I scthupped one of the TAs. Linda: That´s terrible. You are such a dissapointment.

This and the following few strips: https://www.dumbingofage.com/2014/comic/book-4/03-up-all-night-to-get-vengeance/recklessly/

Does anyone have a link to the strips where Danny tutored Sal in math? I'm curious but lazy

Rozenn Keribin

Okay this can be interesting. Enter exhibit A of how mom and daughter are similar in some ways, which results in the added tension.

Daniel Adams

She's found herself another Marcie, one who she CAN be sexually interested in! ...Wait.

Wow, Danny draws out the best in... Sal's parents? This is actually amazing. He established himself as the type of person they'd trust, and then he praised their daughter for being good at something they value, and they found themselves agreeing. Seems like real progress. They absolutely should not have needed this kind of hand-holding to see the best in their daughter, nor to require it from a white boy who checks their boxes for wholesomeness. But it's working (for now), and I'm happy about that. I'm also seeing more and more what Sal sees in Danny. He genuinely respects her in a way that few, if any, other characters do.

Morgan Freeman Narrator: Linda and Charles would roleplay this scenario later, when they got home.

Shane Wegner

This sadly may be how she met her first husband.

I'd make a joke about how Linda can't be mad at Sal for doing that then but that didn't really work out about smoking now did it?
