2023-08-29 11:23:06 +0000 UTCNot gonna lie, Booster and Carla both strike me less as characters than as plot devices. Their defining traits (sherlock holmesian omniscience regarding personalities and all-consuming narcissism, respectively) are so far past the outer limits of the other people in this narrative. It's more jarring and more alien than the 3D models used for Martians in It's Walky! I just kinda check out when either one of them is present. Not everything has to be for me, of course, and Willis transforming a one-note one-dimensional caricature into a relatable protagonist is one of his favorite tricks. But the show of vulnerabilities we've seen so far (Carla needs help approaching a person she likes, Booster gets pied) aren't really doing it for me.
