2024-03-17 05:45:08 +0000 UTCI THINK it's like this. Despite her bravado, Carla is very insecure and bad at reading people and social situations. Even Charlie, who orbits the planet Zork, is better in this regard. Although they had spent significant time together, enough that Charlie already considered them to be a couple, Carla thought she was still at the "need to make her notice me" stage. Here they are holding hands and Charlie is making eyes at her, and Carla has only advanced to the "does she like me?" stage. It's like she's permanently several steps behind. I think Willis is spoofing a certain sort of funny/cute story I've seen a lot of on Tumblr and Reddit, where two girls (who KNOW they are both into girls) will spend a significant amount of time "dating" but one will be thinking "this is my girlfriend" and the other is thinking "man, this is awesome, if only she was my girlfriend", usually until someone else clues her in. It seems to happen enough to be a bit of a lesbian stereotype online.
