College, imo, is just as much about learning what you DON'T want to be

Gale Tazzin

Oh Dorothy "perfect cinnamon roll" Keener... I really hope she can start using her first years of college to kind of find herself? Who on earth knows everything they want to be by eighteen? I really love Joyce reassuring her here, because the only way Dorothy can start to recover all of the mental stamina she burned out (not to mention the trauma she endured) she had to actively begin being honest with a therapist and the many people who love her. What a beautiful strip. ❤️❤️❤️

Chloe

everyone's like "what will dorothy's trajectory be now? a lower seat in government, perhaps?" and i'm over here like "twenty years from now dorothy will be sabotaging raytheon plants"

Seth Aaron Hershman has they she pronouns

I think this a healthy step for Dorothy goal-wise. POTUS is an extremely high (and thankless) bar to hit. Her mental health will benefit a lot from accepting reasonable intermediate goals.

Shane Wegner

Before that can happen she’ll have to realize this means Dorothy planned and executed a path that would have left them all behind if she had just taken her acceptance letter. (And never even discussed it with them, not that she’s obligated to.) The audience has known Dorothy could plausibly be leaving IU for a while now, but best recollection for Joyce, Dorothy staying at IU was always the given so there’s nothing to be happy about yet. Joyce has enough info to deduce that it wasn’t a given, but is hella drunk. I think there could be a step along the lines of “Wait, we’re not even good enough friends that you could discuss this as a possibility until after the fact and we’re drunk? Fair given how personal it is, but also Ouch!”

Shane Wegner

I've had the same impression. She has tried helping Joyce as a direction, but that ends because Joyce has now been helped and is growing considerably on her own. I think Dorothy can adapt the qualities that served her former dream—such as being organized and kind, and showing leadership—to the service of whatever next direction she finds.

Dan Rabin

I really, REALLY think she needed to say that (and hear that)

Bagge

I wonder what Dotty's new dream is gonna be... she seems very directionless right now. Just because you don't want to be president anymore doesn't mean you couldn't still try to get into Yale (without exploiting a dead friend this time) for other things, Dot!

Toby (she-they)

Haaaaaawww.

Richard Cardenas Jr.

How long before it fully sinks in for Joyce that Dorothy is staying at IU, and she once again emits that shriek that gets the dogs all excited?

Harold

D'awwww

Uniquitous

Please elaborate—I'm not doing a good job of connecting this comment to the situation.

Dan Rabin

Dorothy spills, and Joyce says what she was always going to say. Those are the two things that really happen in this strip: three panels of Dorothy struggling to come clean, overlapping four panels of Joyce-with-glasses accepting Dorothy-without-pedestal. Amazi-Girl's line could have been "If we don't start walking, the last panel can't have us walking off towards campus in the distance".

Dan Rabin

This kills the Dorothy inside
