Honestly I think the root of Dorothy’s problem is that she’s got a major thing in common with Joe: neither of them want to be the person they were anymore
Like, Dorothy isn’t just burnt out on being President and it’s a mistake to think she is, she’s burnt out on politics. Every time she’s had to confront it in the world it’s either been humiliating or painful! She’s sick of it! She’s sick of being Perfect Dorothy the Political Girlboss!
But at the same time she’s also like “who am I then, though????”

Yeah, not really sure this "I don't want to be president anymore so now my original path has no use to me. " Is really hitting. She can still run for AN office; it doesn't even have to be that high up. I mean, she would have had to run for lower positions in order to eventually make it to President anyway so why not just continue that? Hell, it doesn't even have to be national; just aim for local office and then decide where to go from there. Or just work in a government position that doesn't require campaigning, you don't even gotta be in charge. She still wants to help make people's lives better. You can probably do that best by helping in being active in just your community.

Agreed, and also like, she has that huge trauma burden she’s kind of dragging along from the kidnapping

For all the talk of Dorothy being unmoored and adrift, this strikes me as her going through a critical (if painful) phase of becoming a more mature, complete person, and is honestly some heavy-duty personal growth to be getting into in one’s early adulthood

I do think that quite a bit of what’s sticking in her figurative throat is pride

Part of me wonders if Dorothy hasn’t considered such as an IWW or left-leaning SEIU or Teamsters organizer at least as a jumping off point given her need to help? But maybe she has and she would gag just as much at the idea of “becoming Roz” or “having to deal with Roz forever”, ideas which must cross the mind when considering that

This is interesting to me because I would've assumed, given Dorothy's continued obsession with helping people and solving problems, her political courses would still be of interest to her, just in a more "collecting data on the enemy" way instead of a "how do I become queen of capitalism" way. Granted, overthrowing the United States' government isn't really a career path, nor is it really sustainable as a hobby without getting equally burned out. What might Dorothy decide to study next time she needs to build a courseload?
