2024-05-21 13:06:59 +0000 UTCIt’s interesting that until Radiah is now starting to manipulate her, Jennifer is being pretty ok with Asher letting the relationship go. Yeah she was doing a weird “I liked you better when you felt dangerous because I’m using relationships as a form of self harm” thing. Which wasn’t a fair thing to put on Asher. But now that he is out kissing dudes, she doesn’t have age rage or deep hurt. The feel is “Well I told him he could do that, I have other things going on” You can tell there’s a little surprise and hurt, but like, normal levels of “Someone just told me my ex moved on in 24 hours level” maybe even calmer. I guess just to say maybe she really was done with the relationship even is she was expressing it in a toxic way, and fuck Radiah for her mind game match making her social group for her own benefit.

She's barred from the IU cheerleader organization, she's not making it in the IU student newspaper, her distancing herself from Walky has been costly to her, the Forest crowd discarded her when she revealed her true past, and now Raidah is prepared to throw her overboard. Jennifer's quest for social acceptance made her the fly to Raidah's spider. If Jennifer is going to have an improvement arc like other main characters, it will probably be in the direction of developing real friendship by accepting the people who accept her, regardless of any imagined external social hierarchy. Raidah shows us a further-evolved, more competent, product of the direction Jennifer has been trying to go, and failing. Be problem-solver, discard nassty head cheerleader!
