2019-09-30 10:43:01 +0000 UTCSo a bit of background on this song... It's very Canadian. It's a cover of a song by a Canadian Folk singer named Stan Rogers. The song is about the singer making a cross-country trip across Canada, and recounting the history of European and Canadian exploration of Canada in the search of a 'northwest passage' - a sea route through the arctic, something that would have made it much easier to get from Europe to Asia. Many of them, such as the Franklin expedition mentioned in the song, ended tragically. Stan Rogers, the writer and singer of the original version (also worth a listen, but very much not metal) also died tragically in a plane crash in the early 80s. The song is often called Canada's 'second national anthem'.
