Most likely it's not the WiFi signal itself that is having a problem, but the cable modem (maybe you have a combination modem/wifi router device). The best thing that you can do is to install a UPS (uninterruptable power supply, basically battery backup + surge protection), and connect the modem to that. If this has happened a thousand times already, the modem might be mostly fried, so pick up a replacement from your ISP or buy your own (DOCSIS 3.0 or better) and register it with your ISP if they'll allow that. It might come with WiFi already, but you can also disable the WiFi function on there and have a dedicated router or just an access point for WiFi.

This is one of the reasons why I moved away from Miami. There are *powerful* thunderstorms every single day during the summer and they would knock out the cable modem for hours. Temperature and humidity will have an effect, and electrical charge in the air. You might have luck with new networking equipment, not sure. I work as an IT Manager, but it's been a long time since I've done much with consumer level networking equipment.
