I had this happen with a roommate of mine before, except that I *did* invite her. I made a facebook event, back when I used fb more and thought everyone used it. I invited her and all my other housemates and friends. But I guess because she hadn't gotten a personal invite from me (we weren't that close, even though we lived together) she thought she wasn't invited. I assumed that everyone in the house knew that they were invited, and most of them did, but she was very insecure and had some stuff going on that seemed to bring up a lot of socially awkward exchanges.

I mean, if Joyce wanted her then she would have invited her.

I like Lucy and I think sheβs good for Walky, but Iβm still a little invested in Amber and Walky having feelings for each other. Maybe Lucy and Amber can share Walky eventually.

Not to downplay B-Jenn's obtuseness, but in fairness to her she was probably unaware at this point that Lucy had already met and was forming connections with some of her friends in her former dorm. She wouldn't have thought of inviting her new roommate to a party where she might be a stranger to everyone else (except Ruth).

It would have been very easy to simply keep Lucy as an endearing wallflower, perpetually pining after someone too oblivious to realize how into him (and perfect for him) she was. Walky finally figuring it out (with a push from Dorothy) has been one of the most satisfying elements of the strip post-timeskip.

They're room mates, Ive seen nothing to suggest they're friends.

Oh Lucy sweetie! She deserves so much better.
It's nice that we already know that things do get a bit better for her in the next few months. (There may still be a bunch of pain and drama along the way, knowing this universe, but she has new friends and a boyfriend in the present-day strips, and I think she's pretty happy about that.)

I was a lonely kid. This really hits home. In response to Lucyβs hint, Billie says βI can imagine.β I like Billie vastly more than I like Jennifer, but she could still be a bit obtuse.

I was watching the new episode as I was drawing this and decided that Lucy's shirt looked a little plain.

The opposite happened to a friend of a friend of mine, whom we'll call Bob. My friend made a FB post about her birthday picnic by a lake, and said that anybody was welcome. Bob saw the FB post, but didn't show up, saying that "I didn't know I was invited."

Lucy is probably the character closest to who I am in real life.
