BONUS STRIP FOR JULY 2022

Wiigii!

Dread Pirate Robin

I’d forgotten that. Yeah, that joke sure is inscrutable.

Regalli

Careful, Joyce. Introduce a Walky character and before you know it, you'll have two sequel comics where his name is in the title and the only way of escaping him will be to either reboot the whole universe or write a strip set in a toy store. Is that what you want? Is it?

Daibhid Ceannaideach

In case anyone's curious, Joyce's strip is a near-exact duplicate of this Roomies! one: http://www.itswalky.com/comic/surplus/ My guess is that the joke she intends, as in the original, is on just how bad of a pick Doris made. Like, look at this guy, he's an obvious doofus. But it's hard to be sure because, as in the original, Julia's reaction comes before the introduction. I'm guessing that's Dorothy's first criticism.

Sibre Collard

I hope Dorothy is picking up on the hints.

Andrea Andrew

I like the callback to the It’s Walky Walky (version 1.0).

Edwin I Callahan

I'd imagine a lot of college comics (including, I'm purely speculating, Willis's own earliest efforts) are like this - fall-on-the-floor hilarious to the artist's own immediate friend group, bafflingly inscrutable to everyone else. I agree with Alexa about both Joyce's intent here and how most people (insiders or not) would actually read it; she's clearly going for "No one is good enough for MY Doris, and when I say 'My Doris' I mean in the best-friend sense, certainly not anything else," but the subtext is barely sub-.

Harold

Okay Joyce, first of all, put your speech bubbles in the correct order. We aren't wild animals

I mean, they do functionally nothing *if the President doesn't die*. In the alternative they become president so yeah I'd think competence would be an extremely important criterion for picking them.

Rozenn Keribin

I've forgotten the the lore. I the due that had to be hunted down but its OK because he's a werewolf?

Bagge

XD Ohhhhh, Doris. You amazing future President

BBCC

Or the President is horny for him.

C.T. Phipps

I think the intended joke is that Julia’s expecting him to be introduced as a boyfriend, not a VP? I think the audience (Daisy) will read the joke with the understanding that clearly Julia is gay and in love with Doris. I do not blame Daisy for that, the joke clearly needs some extra oomph.

Regalli

So I guess Walky’s Grayverse counterpart is competent enough to be considered for a VP pick? (I know they do functionally nothing once elected, but generally picking the VP is a political move.)

Regalli

This is great for us, but I can't imagine getting the joke as a normal IU college student

Minzoku Bokumetsu

At least Joyce isn't showing Dorothy the first draft, where he was wearing a mouse costume.
