SECOND BONUS STRIP FOR NOVEMBER 2022

Comments

I have a friend with that exact name. I kid thee not.

Bad Poetry

You are correct. It is a legit surname though. It is not some nonsense that Willis created by picking random words and mashing together. I don't know if it is a common surname but, still, it is in my dictionary.

Heatth

Joyce's editor may be just a bit overentheusiastic.

yaoi boi

Years later a spinoff comic will introduce a character named Gary Mann. (Unless someone can think of a better pun; I'm not terribly proud of that one.)

Sean Murphy

I adore pun names and I see nothing wrong with these.

BBCC

It's almost like Willis is drawing on personal experience or something. Maybe even using an archive of their old works as reference.

Sean Murphy

Mind you she also thought Parasaurolophus could breathe fire 😒

Moon Goat

I love how proud she is

Bagge

I imagine Joyce "knows" dinosaurs like pterodactyl =p

Minzoku Bokumetsu

*tries to make a joke based on other readings of "saru"* *finds nothing believable, since no word would start with the verb ending* yeah, monkey mountain

Minzoku Bokumetsu

Possible pun on "Siri".

Dan Rabin

I alternate between impressed and horrified at how believably bad Joyce's comic is. It's like all the autobio comics we were drawing to post on keenspace and our .edu websites in the early 2000s.

Lauren Fotiades

How many dinosaurs could Joyce know?

Is it a double pun on "ceratops" as well or am I overthinking?

joyce is probably not gonna introduce a character based on a child she briefly saw for 2 seconds several months ago

David Willis

monkey mountain dina was a bad motherfucker she was seventeen feet tall, she had a hundred and fifty wives

Seth Aaron Hershman has they she pronouns

If cereal becomes an issue will we also see not-Riley along with not-Dina?

Captain Button

Dina Saruyama, even (in the Walkyverse she was Dina Sarazu)

Jasmijn Wellner

@Some Ed: Dina didn't appear in Shortpacked! until the very end (a version of her came through the portal that brought the Soggies), so the dinosaur love wasn't present there. (As long as we're talking about Shortpacked!, it was a nice touch that, in the 2018 April Fool's bonus strip, Dina had acquired Becky as a universe-hopping traveling companion.)

Harold

I hope we get to see "Moe" soon.

Harold

I seem to recall the trait was there pretty strong in Shortpacked! as well.

Some Ed

These strips were drawn way in advance. Joyce's buffer may be almost as long as Willis's. Even so, I wouldn't expect Dina to be saving the comic the way Dorothy does (although "Doris" doesn't come off too well here, either).

Harold

Isn’t this the comic that Joyce’s editor said has more romantic chemistry between the two female leads (Doris and Julia) than the intended male love interest?

Andrea Andrew

I don't remember It's Walky! Dina being all that obsessed with dinosaurs. I mean, I know it was there, but Willis really leaned into that trait in DoA.

Packy Anderson

Nice name Joyce.

Pierpaolo Di Camillo

Oh, I get it, because DINA likes DINOsaurs! NOT VERY ORIGINAL Willi- I mean Joyce.

Shane Wegner

BTW, as far as I know "Saruyama" means "monkey mountain". Is that correct, or do I need to brush up on my Japanese?

Rob McBobson

I thought Joyce and Deena were good with each other.

Andrea Andrew

Yeah who would do that 👀
