I have no idea why this particular strip was so messy to pin down. Okay, fine, I know. I had one half of a comic strip to fill with a Special Interest, and I kept fighting myself over what small portion of my Special Interest would win the right to be in the three panels I had room to talk about it. So many different takes! All of them fine!
Anyway, the above pencils were the original version. Version 2:
This is where I realized I was nudging up against a Special Interest, and so I rewrote the strip to be kind of a list of THINGS I KNOW. and there's sort of a joke, but mostly it's a list.
ATTEMPT THREE:
This one's fine. I like it. But I was still unsatisfied. Let's try #4:
I like this one. Don't remember why I didn't run with it. Maybe it ends on a thought that's hard to transition into the next strip with, I dunno. And FIVE:
Okay, here I think, hrm, maybe it's just the inclusion of my Special Interest that's getting in the way. Let's do a character-based take! Don't mention Kings or Judges at all! ... okay and I guess this didn't get very far.
And here's the final. I kinda mostly just reverted to the original, but with a changed focus to Dorothy and Joyce.
I spent so much time rewriting this particular strip. It's not even that important! WHY
