to be fair, Dana went away as a result (though is presumably still alive), Ethan's still around

I’m all for seeing Jacob, but Ethan’s story is kinda repetitive.

Andrea Andrew

Honestly I didn't understand why people though he did, you think that would had come up by now if it was the case.

Jeremy AR

But it isn't her happiest face, is it? It's a forced, fake, pseudo-happy face. Jacob is the worst person to be trying to help Sarah at present (though he's also the only person actually doing so), but he's not wrong that what she's attempting isn't a good solution to her problem.

Phil_M

His initial attitude towards Sarah was unfair, because he clearly didn't feel any chemistry with her, didn't like being objectified by her, but didn't bother finding a way to tell her that she had no chance. (To be fair, he seemed to find her interesting enough to like the idea of being friends with her, but playing the Just Friends card with someone who's coming on that strong and opening her heart like that isn't fair.) I get the feeling he likes the feeling of being admired by or attractive to others, to the point where it may be the reason for his "Good Guy" presentation. Then, his treatment of Sarah the previous night turned horrible because he was drunk on the unqualified, positive adoration he got from Lucy (which Sarah could never offer, because she's Sarah). Then, the morning after, (a) it suddenly dawned on him that he's been horrible to Sarah, and (b) Sarah was behaving very weirdly, and he didn't have to be especially vain to guess that his treatment of her might have been part of the reason. Because he has a bit more emotional intelligence than the rest of cast, he guessed that she was forcing this cheerfulness and might be under stress; because he always wants to be the "Good Guy", and nobody else was doing a damn thing to help Sarah, he took it upon himself to try, Unfortunately, of course, he's the worst possible person to be providing her with any help - but his vanity may stop him admitting that. TL,DR: I don't think Raidah has anything much to do with his attitude to Sarah, and I don't think anything stops him from admitting that Sarah may sometimes do the right thing. He just runs on a subtly toxic mix of vanity and honest intentions. (Which said, one thing he may have got from Raidah is the idea that "everyone" hated Sarah for what she did. Raidah's clique did, but the core cast seem to accept that she did the best she could in a horrible situation. I imagine that he'll get the same response from them for this, which may even confuse him a bit.)

I did like seein Jacob overstep. It might be an error, but he means well, so it’s complex and adds to his character.

Shane Wegner

So we know that Jacob has no animosity-by-proxy from Raidah. Maybe he just didn’t feel chemistry is the hard reality here. He admired Sarah, he likes who she is, just doesn’t have emotional attachment.

I’m here for that villain arc!

Shane Wegner

It comes full circle! Maybe Jacob rethinks scolding Sarah for deliberately putting her happiest face forward now that he’s learning a bit more what she went through.

I was looking back at that storyline and found this strip - it was super hard for Sarah to do, and she knew it was the right descision that she didn't have to make. She talks about her scholarship as partial reason in other strips, but that wasn't the deepest reason - she didn't want Dana to die https://www.dumbingofage.com/2012/comic/book-2/05-saturdays-all-right-for-slighting/coffin/

Onyx

Jacob actually admired Sarah for that? if they somehow end up together because of Sarah's least popular action Lucy will actually become the joker

Gale Tazzin

Wait hold up - so he knows what Sarah did from Raidah I assume, and he did the right thing for Ethan at lower stakes than what Sarah was against, but he is still being an ass to Sarah, and given that apparently he dated Raidah for a while, I'm assuming never acknowledged to Sarah any of his complacency. I'm disliking him a bit more even, although that is on pause depending on what he says in the next couple of strips.

Onyx

And everyone was wrong. You did a good thing, Jacob. And I like how even when he's with someone else, he thinks of what Sarah did as an option for what to do now. He thinks she's smart

BBCC

i dunno if calling someone's abusive parents to make them less sad could be described as "necessary"

Jacob's right hand going behind his head as Ethan puts him on the spot makes this strip for me—and that's just the high point of the acting. I note that Ethan asks "how'd everyone like that?" rather than "was that the right thing to do?" (which is what would likely have been on Jacob's mind when deciding to send the email).

Dan Rabin

Do what is necessary. Not because it is popular. But because it is necessary.

Omnithea

Honestly I can understand where Ethan is coming from because I felt Jacob did overstep his boundaries even though his heart was in the right place.
