2024-10-09 12:45:04 +0000 UTCOne problem here is perhaps that, in the real world, if someone of student age is clearly in a bad way, contacting their parents generally feels like a reasonable idea. Sure, some parents are awful, and ideally you'd want to try and determine if they were part of the problem before acting, but most of us don't assume that parents are are horrible by default. That doesn't work in the DoA-verse. I mean, some parents are okay, but you really can't depend on it. This is partly a drama thing and partly Willis's personal schtick. Yet Jacob has been running on real-world assumptions. Presumably, by the standards of the setting, he's blessed with adequate parents...

We know from her sister's visit that she wasn't the easiest person to deal with even back in high school, to the point that she drove off at least one potential boyfriend.

It looks, to me, like he's only just realising Sarah leaned into being a dick after getting bullied and saddled with the term. Like that last panel has "lightbulb moment" written all over it. I think we're going to see an apology from Jacob to Sarah soon tbh

Sarah was put through hell by Radiah and her gang (which has been ongoing both years - and Jacob was with Radiah, he had to have seen some of it, but he chose to stay with her in spite of his "values," and apparently didn't stop her), she got more prickly to protect herself, not because she wanted to lean into being a dick. He's trying to make himself look better than Sarah by implying he's *not* leaning into it (look at his face as he says it), but his actions in this storyline are increasingly at odd with how he portrays himself. I do not want to see him with Sarah at all anymore.
