2024-11-15 09:53:28 +0000 UTCI’m sensing a pattern lately: Character A: “I’m considering a new direction that might work for me.” Character B: “I prefer to lean into my existing stereotype of you and/or actively mock you for this.” Example: Joe considering culinary arts as a direction in life enjoys, Danny concluding that Joe’s stereotype as a sex beast is the only explanation. Sarah trying positivity, both Jacob and Ruth leaning into their preferred understanding of Sarah as a miserable sourpuss. I’m not saying it’s unrealistic, it’s sadly realistic and a good source of tension and drama. I’m just acutely aware lot crab potting and people not wanting others to grow or change.
