Personally, that one didn't so anything for me. It also has maybe the worst CGI ever in a Hollywood blockbuster movie (I'm sure most know to what I'm referring); even back then it looked awful.

Rachel Weisz is still the unsung hero(ine) of this movie for me. I knew she was going to be a star after seeing her here.

Be sure to watch The Mummy Returns, back with the same cast (sort of).

I was very much the same as you in my younger years. There were scary movies that I wouldn't even watch when edited on network TV. I eventually came to appreciate horror, but I'm VERY picky about what I'll watch. It's been a long time since I've watched The Mummy, and it holds up amazingly well. I remember going to see this in the theaters, and none of us knew what we were getting ourselves into, but I surely wasn't expecting an Indiana Jones-esq action adventure. Such a fun movie. I'll repeat some of my suggestions from earlier: Poltergeist is a good, kinda scary movie. It has some intense moments, but overall it's very Spielbergian, which is apt since it's rumored he directed a decent chunk of the movie, though he's only billed as a producer. Sleepy Hollow is one of my go-to Halloween movies. Stars Johnny Depp, and Christina Ricci with a gothic setting and rich atmosphere. Just really good and strangely beautiful. And for something a little more light hearted, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride is another staple of my Halloween. Another gothic setting with the voices of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. VERY Tim Burton, very fun.

I love your opening story about how you avoided seeing this movie. 🤣 I love ancient Egyptian themed movies/tv. This movie and Stargate SG-1 was my go to.

Steve SG-1

Oh, and a head's up, The Mummy Returns has two snake scenes and The Scorpion King has three. You can do this, Addie.

Happy Tuesday, Addie! 😊 I LOVE this movie! Definitely one of my top favorite Brendan Fraser movies. It's been awhile since I've seen this first one. It's going to be great re-visiting it. I do very highly recommend the remaining two movies in the trilogy: "The Mummy Returns" and "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" along with the spin-off movie "The Scorpion King". I hope that you have a great day today! 😊

Also "Tremors" and "Arachnophobia" (both PG-13 and both from 1990).

Happy Tuesday, Addie. My late middle school history with this movie was a lot different because at the time, I actually liked The Mummy (1999), and I still do as an adult. It's one of my favorite Universal Monster movies. You should also check out its two sequels The Mummy Returns (2001) & The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) and its spin-off The Scorpion King (2002).
