NEW! The magical opening of The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe (1972)

Hi, patrons!

Today we take a look at the opening of The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe  (aka Le Grand Blond avec une chaussure noire), a French spy spoof starring Pierre Richard.

We speak with legendary illusionist Gérard Majax, whose skillful hands are the star of this opening, and French title design scholar Alexandre Tylski about the creation of this mesmerizing title sequence. The theme song is guaranteed to get stuck in your head!

STAFF RECOMMENDATION(S):

Have you seen Alien: Covenant? Did you notice that the titles were a cool throwback to the original film's opening

Also: Director David Fincher's much-maligned sequel Alien³  turns 25 this week. The film opened on a real sour note and the franchise hasn't been the same since: http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/alien3/

And finally a quick note about the late, great Sir Roger Moore.

The former James Bond star died this week at the age of 89. Moore played 007 seven times and few actors have ever been so well represented in the field of title design. We've got every Bond title sequence on the site (plus our James Bond: 50 Years of Main Title Design supercut), so we suggest you make yourself a martini, sit back, and enjoy!

Nobody did it better.
