Full Of It #136 - The Russian Ghost Ship

What better way to celebrate a gloomy Christmas than to dim the lights with a stiff sherry and discuss MV Lyubov Orlova, which was a Soviet cruise liner let loose to drift in the Atlantic Ocean in 2013. She was impounded in Canada after some shady shit by her operators but essentially towed into international waters to be set free after no one wanted the bird anymore. She was believed to be on course for the UK containing cannibal rats but might now be alone at the bottom of the sea.

Omg I love a cruise! Been on a few. Have to say I used to feel the same (thought they were full of oldies and boring people) actually its a really good way to see multiple destinations, albeit you only spend a day or two in each place, it does give you a taste. From personal experience Royal Caribbean tends to be catered towards the younger market, spent most of the time round the Med drunk with a load of Americans! P&O is quieter and more British (if that's a thing) but at times did resemble "Butlins at sea" with the passengers singing come on eileen and other 'trashy' butlinsesque songs - as described by various national tabloids, something to do with P&O making the cruise 'all inclusive'. Currently scouting our next sailing adventures. Am I old too young? Haha! X P.s. have nothing against Butlins ;)

Christmas has definitely been difficult this year for families with immunocompromised family members, so I completely understand why you wouldn’t want to risk your father getting sick. My mother has MS and it’s been a worry since COVID-19 hit the UK properly in March. As for all the talk of territorial and internationals waters - I’m getting horrible flashbacks to my Erasmus year in Spain when I had to take International Public Law, hadn’t long been learning the language, and we spent numerous incomprehensible weeks on the law of the sea. Ha! Would love to hear more on the topic of ghost ships, especially the ones that wash ashore in the Sea of Japan, etc., with skeletons aboard; I think it’s said they’re likely North Korean. Also, what about a wee pod on British serial killers? Y’know, Myra, Rosemary and Fred, and maybe even Scotland’s own Bible John. PS: Will 2021 be the year we finally get the fabled release of the 50-minute wonder that is “Hydro”?
