EUROVISION 2021: THE AFTERMATH

In the wake of Italy's victory at Eurovision, we have some thoughts.

EUROVISION 2021: THE AFTERMATH

Comments

"we're gay and we like simple things" nova i think this is the most relatable thing you have ever said

Cuppa T

I thought it was good also.

Very much this^ that song awakened something in my chasms

MaryTylerMora

omg how incredible was spain! /s

San Marino had me bopping and sanging around. Still, very happy they made it to the finale (at last). Glad y'all are here, keeping us sane and entertained with the long videos during these times <3

Medo

Ukraine owns this hole tbh

I'm commenting for the first time. I am from Serbia. I love Eurovision even though I don't watch it often. This year, I watched because Serbia sent a well-known group that is popular on the territory of the entire former Yugoslavia and where there is a lot of Yugoslav diaspora, Austria and Germany. That is why I cheered for Serbia in this year's competition. I think the performance was great even though the song is not very good. I'm honestly interested in what you think about the fact that the Western media (German, Austrian, Norwegian) commented on the Hurricane group as cheap plastic whores ... I didn't particularly understand the Germans who tries to be progressive, and in every YouTube clip of a German rector I heard comments about how plastic they are and how dress like whores. Nobody in Serbia made such comments. In the Balkans, we strive to look beautiful and attractive. We like to dress nicely and take care of ourselves. While living in Germany, it was very strange to me that German women were very messy, didn't use much makeup, dresst casuale and did not care how they looked or behaved. In Germany, girls don't get so dressed up because it's kitsch for them and it's not feminist. In Serbia, women think that you are a feminist when you take care of all aspects, appearance, education, etc. Why is it okay to call women who are attractive whores? The songs I liked this year come from Cyprus, Ukraine, Greece. The song from Italy is good, but I personally don't like it, because it's too aggressive for me. The top 10 are good songs and they deserved the points they have gotten. Greetings!!!

I can’t believe you didn’t mention that car crash from Aman d’Holding giving our points!

I love your song so... I downloaded the vocal tinges and made something to like bop to in my head if u want to hear it just tell me where to send it to✌🏻🥺😆

can't believe you didn't talk about HOW FIT the singer from the roop was.

Yeah, like 20 years ago.

Pablo del Segundo

FFS, NOT Steps or Sugababes. Speaking as an old person, they're too fucking old for Eurovision.

Pablo del Segundo

Come on Lymp. Steps would be perfect for Eurovision and you know it

The real test for those mics will be can they withstand being beaten by that chicken drumstick necklace...

I don’t think the UK can blame anyone when we send people that don’t preform and people like Amanda Holden to represent us and basically shit on other countries.

A friend of mine made a really good point while we were watching about the UK entry and voting in general in Eurovision and that is that people have this idea that you vote against songs/artists when of course we all know that's just not how it works. And yeah the voting this year was brutal, the gulf in points was massive. I do still think part of the problem is the UK entries are partly done on the assumption that the voting is political so this leads to us having these really earnest and almost thematically apologetic entries. Less so this year maybe but last time was practically a flat out apology for brexit and it's just embarrassing. No one cares and they certainly don't want to be reminded if they do. We need something loud and fun and maybe a bit daft. I really enjoyed this year and it was very strong BUT I miss the silly entries (I mean not including Germany's entry this year which was horrid), people are maybe taking eurovision too seriously and that's a definite niche that can be filled especially when we don't need to qualify. I just don't see the point of paying your way to the final and not taking advantage of that by taking a risk on something that would maybe struggle to qualify. Thank you for reading my blog.

Gurl: totally here for your support of Malta (loved her <3)... and YES THE WORLD NEEDS MORE LAURA MVULA!!!

divinemediocrity

I personally was rooting for Destiny/Je Me Casse because it's an awesome song, and there was a part of me that could not NOT get into Natalia with Sugar because she showed definitively that we are all in fact made of cake (#wakeupsheeple)... but then again, would I gladly bend over and open up for either Damiano or Ethan of Måneskin? Yes. Yes I would. But then again I am only a US-born Anglophile with no horse in this race, so you are more than welcome to say fuck my drag :D

divinemediocrity

Even a "stars of Eurovision 2021" tour w/out it necessarily needing to be the top 10 could be fun! Extra good if they could get Ukraine or Italy to close the show though!

Kim N

i'm so excited to take part and have an opinion next year

I loved this year's show! Italy fully deserved the win, though I have to say my favourite act from the night was Go_a - such a banger of a song, amazing staging and just an all round cool performance! As a result of this, I am now proudly Ukrainian.

I had really high hopes for Malta this year but was also a little disappointed in their televotes score! But I also ended up falling in love with Gjon he sings with such passion and technique! (And because he’s cute) so he shot up to my #1 when it seemed like Malta was falling behind. I think Laura Mvula would be a phenomenal choice for UK next year. Her voice is angelic and she’s just absolutely stunning 😩 I do hope she’s considered.

I wish some of the countries had been able to use their songs from last year. Malta had a better song, Russia had Little Big, Sweden had the Mama's. Iceland's song was better as well. There just seemed to be more memorable songs from last year,

I was waiting for this! I was shocked and so happy Italy won! I always support a glam rock inspired group!
