Full Of It #215 - The Roswell Incident

In July 1947, United States Army Air Force officers were tasked with recovering debris from a crash site on a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico. The enduring mystique and conspiracy surrounding the Roswell incident are founded in the idea that the object which crashed was not a weather balloon as had been reported in the press. Witnesses claimed that it was a flying saucer-type UFO, that strange bodies were also recovered from the site and that the truth of the event had been covered up by US government.

So in finalising our Summer '22 Alien trilogy, let's dive into the most famous UFO crapshoot of all time.

Great series! I'm not usually all that interested in alien stories but the cases you picked covered a nice broad range. One story I do like that you might not know, and its a weird one, is the case of Valiant Thor. Its hard to find info on it today, which is strange because I remember reading about when I was first on the internet on some old geocities page, and having seen it since when looking it up in the past, but its all wiped today. Basically, a man named Frank E. Stranges wrote a book called Stranger at the Pentagon. In it, he documents the visit of an alien to the United States of America which, he claims, is a true story. The alien went by the name Valiant Thor, and he claimed to have come from a place we call the star of the morning and the night. Some think this means Venus, but who really knows for sure with riddles. The interesting thing is that Valiant Thor was a public figure for a short while. According to the book, he was often brought to parties among the rich and famous and, while his name seems to have been stricken from the internet, he there are photos of a man who people claim to be Thor at baseball games, visiting celebrities etc. He supposedly lived at the Pentagon for a few years from the late fifties onwards, but no one knows what happened to him. Theres a great podcast episode of Supernatural with Ashley Flowers that covers the case, plus a couple of youtube videos. The book was reworked into a movie at some point by the same name. Its an odd story, and feels like its clearly a hoax, but some of the details in the story are compelling, and the fact that information about him and the book itself is so hard to find scratches the conspiracy itch in my brain. Looking forward to the next pod! Gavin.

Also I apologize if there’s any grammatical errors, as I can’t be fucked with with actual texting as I use speech to text πŸ˜‚πŸ˜πŸ€™

Hey Lympy (Limpy like our wristsπŸ˜‚) it’s been a while since I commented, I have always been fascinated with Roswell and aliens and this whole alien streak that you’ve been going on is literally my favorite. Would love to see you there a pod about the X-Files. If you haven’t already I don’t know why you haven’t because it seems so far up your alley (god don’t say up your alley πŸ˜πŸ˜‚) On an unrelated note you should do a video reacting to Novympia Memes! I’ve missed you and can’t wait for the next one. πŸ’šπŸ’œ

I really want you to binge watch and then review the Roswell TV show from the late 90s. I was obsessed with Roswell ANYTHING back then. God that's just a 90s / early 2000s time capsule.

Sounding is also a thing for ladies I believe

I agree with your Nope verdict. Thought it was boring af too. I thought the whole β€œalien” concept to be ridiculous, it was basically a giant kite by the end! Also, was listening to this on my commute to work and every time I came to a stop I could hear this weird noise and thought it was my car but couldn’t work out what from. Then I realised it was your fan in the background 🀣

I’m excited for Lymp’s budding career in Meteorology taking over the pod all because of Aliens.

Love the pod gal! Listening with a wee milkshake to deal with this bastard heat and humidity. Have to admit you've lost me with this whole "oh aliens would absolutely speak to children" notion- the idea that an advanced race, capable of crossing interstellar distances, would chose to impart their message on a bunch of random kids is so absurdly stupid that I struggle not to see this whole thing as a farce. If you feel like a deep dive, Isaac Arthur has a brilliant series of YouTube videos on the Fermi Paradox and alien behaviour, where he breaks down why aliens *definitely* wouldn't act like they do in these stories. It just doesn't hold up to any degree of scrutiny, love. While I personally think alien life is real (the universe is big and old!) I struggle to see how any other intelligent species could exist, given the lack of proof. I really think we're the first intelligent species to arise in the Milky Way. Again, check out Isaac Arthur or google the Fermi Paradox for some leisurely reading. I've loved the alien triple-billing, maybe you could do more mini-series in the future? Something to take back to corporate, discuss it at the next board meeting doll. Hope you're well!

Well now I'm hoping this 'secret project' is Olympias own Netflix show can you imagine. What an amazing, funny sketch show you would make.❣ P.s if I'm completely wrong is a sketch show something you would ever consider?

unhhh stretch my weather-balloon'ole

I met the niece of Betty and Barney Hill (while working for the Mutual UFO Network) and their family was very defensive of their truth. I also found that civilian sightings were most often (much to my dismay) Chinese lanterns!!! Why are we launching so many that people think they are daily UFO sightings?!? Also, I have always felt that the weather balloon explanation at Roswell was ridiculous. The United States government has been engineering very advanced aircraft for the last 80 years and so much of our culture’s view on UFO sightings comes from their direct contamination on the matter. Fascinating and terrifying, all at once.
