Ah this is what I need while I do research for my PhD. Had a bloody mare with updateing my card on patreon but its all sorted, so Im excited to listen to episodes ive missed. This film just seems to be so devisive so I might just have to go watch it post Chrimbo.

Also I see what you mean about 3D films. To me they’ve always been a bit of a gimmic that’ve never actually added to my enjoyment or experience of a film. I went to see my first 4D film a few weeks ago and that was fun but I think a lot of the effects didn’t work the way they’re probably intended to. I think the best way to give audiences this big high quality immersive experience all of these things are about isnt about improving technology in cinemas but in the actual filmmaking. Leave cinemas as they are you you can watch things as they were made

I think they’re basically setting Kiri up to be Jesus. From the immaculate conception storyline of Sigourney’s original avatar being randomly pregnant one day to the fact that Kiri has this clear connection to Eywa (God) and is wielding some sort of power or mystic ability in this film, to me it feels really obvious that’s where they’re taking the character but who knows. James Cameron said in an interview that Avatar 3 has been shot and written in a way that it can be a franchise conclusion if way of water fails to perform at the box office or critical reception isn’t what they hoped for. Seeing current figures I think they’ll probably go ahead with all 5 but I honestly can’t see how they’re going to drag this story out for much longer. It’s like you said they need to bin off this Quaritch storyline to either make way for Edie Falco’s character or step away from the sky people stuff completely and make it more about Pandora and the Na’vi. Also as a side note you absolutely need to make a letterboxd account it’s right up your street. It’s basically a film review social media thing it’s so fun

I was thinking about finally watching the first movie and the sequel until you said it was over 3 hours. lol The only 3 hour movies I'm willing to sit through any more are the Lord of the Rings movies, and that's just because I hate myself. However, I agree that 3D at the cinema just is not worth it.

I hate 3d... I wear glasses so it's very uncomfortable and I always have a headache after a 3d film. I probably won't watch this before is on Disney Plus, as I didn't like the first one very much; but when you mentioned the "I learned the language so well..." thing it felt to me like a really kids movie explanation to avoid subtitles. It's actually the excuse used in Doctor Who since the 60's... when you enter the TARDIS it connects to your brain and translates any alien/foreign language to your own so you always understand and is understood.

Listened and decided I have zero interest in seeing a 3 hour plus sequel to a film I didn't like that much and I certainly don't remember. I guess I'd be up for seeing 30 minutes of the best visual effects? It just sounds awful (plus I believe Tina Fey and Amy Poehler when they say being married to James Cameron must be torture). Saying that, have you been to Avatar land at Disney? That does look very cool.

I remember back when I was 18 in 2008 going to cinema for orange Wednesdays and splitting the cost with my friend and it was £1.75 each 😂 makes you feel ancient

Well that was one of the strangest ends to a date I’ve ever had we went to the picture hall to see the new Avatar and we left the picture and as you do check your phone. I went oh my favourite podcast is up and it’s about the film and he without missing a fucking beat went FULL OF IT. Safe to say we then sat in the car for the duration of the pod eating our McDonald’s enjoy you dulcet tones down out EARHOLES

I feel as though Kiri is going to play a huge role in the next movie.
