Should the pages of the notebook for the bookclub be lined or unlined?

We will probably go with Both.

2021-10-22 01:15:23 +0000 UTCI would want lined for those of us who have a bit of a time keeping level lines. However make them light/faint. That will give guide for writing AND allow sketches with a certain amount of grid for drawing.

2021-09-20 19:47:22 +0000 UTCUnlined. We should bring handwriting (and cursive) back :P Currently working through an AA but I'll keep up best I can!

2021-09-18 02:53:00 +0000 UTCYup, thats why I like unlined too. People in the 18th and 19th century had no lines but beautiful penmanship. Mine is not the best - I think because the nuns broke my knuckles LoL . Plus its far easier to make little sketches or doodle on unlined pages

2021-09-17 19:57:48 +0000 UTCUnlined, one can always take a ruler & pencil to line it for one's self.

2021-09-17 18:33:11 +0000 UTCI would say whichever would be more period! Otherwise--unlined.
Brigit Zent
2021-09-17 17:49:10 +0000 UTCUnlined. or only the left/right side pages with light lines and the other side blank? Which is more authentic? π€
Lane Andress
2021-09-17 17:33:40 +0000 UTCUnlined please, and only the use of quill pen :-)

2021-09-17 17:16:38 +0000 UTCSince this is meant to be a practical modern used item with a look of the 1700s, college ruled pages in a light color would be practical and desired. But also have a small section, say near the back, of blank pages for drawings, sketches, or whatever other free form drawing or writing someone wants to do (depending on the books in the club). Is the book hard or soft? If hardback, inside cover linings would be nice.

2021-09-17 17:12:46 +0000 UTCUnlined please, for those of us with an artistic bent... though.. options are always nice.

2021-09-17 17:01:40 +0000 UTCI like the idea of half lined and half not. Some of us *really* need those lines, but it's hard to make sketches, etc., on lined paper.

2021-09-17 16:58:24 +0000 UTCMy Second Idea: Why not both? What I mean by that is, why not include at least a few pages that are unlined for those of us who like to make a quick sketch or three to help with our note taking?

2021-09-17 16:08:33 +0000 UTCThanks for the new info! Never heard of him before!
Rose McGuinn
2021-09-17 16:06:44 +0000 UTCUnlined, please, for more flexibility. Thanks for taking a vote!

2021-09-17 16:05:25 +0000 UTCThen again some of us having trouble simply typing - let alone writing. I was referring to Mr. Khan in my previous post and spelled the name wrong. Apologies.

2021-09-17 15:34:05 +0000 UTCLined. Unlined would certainly seem more period-correct and aesthetically pleasing. However, I expect the notebook is intended to serve some functional purpose and lined paper might be more conducive to achieving that end. I suspect most of us cannot yet craft so elegant a communication as that recently received from Mr. Kahn in England. So lined strikes me as the more practical choice on this occasion.

2021-09-17 15:28:50 +0000 UTCAgreed for lines, light, and presumably somewhat narrow. (To increase potential page input!)

2021-09-17 15:26:51 +0000 UTCI'm a lightly-lined person, myself. Preferably somewhat narrow...

2021-09-17 15:20:59 +0000 UTCLook up John Tetlow - he patented a machine for this in the late 18th century!
Amy Petty
2021-09-17 15:18:14 +0000 UTCJohn Tetlow invented a machine for ruled paper in 1770, in fact.
Amy Petty
2021-09-17 15:17:24 +0000 UTCLined. I know a few folks think otherwise, but I don't think authenticity is or should be the goal here - and a lot of us just can't use an unruled notebook.
Amy Petty
2021-09-17 15:13:17 +0000 UTCLined, please! I write in entropic. It just gets more and more illegible as I go. At least the lines keep my scribbling looking Dean Martin drunk, not Otis Campbell drunk.

2021-09-17 14:41:26 +0000 UTCI'm with Kathie, Lightly lined, perhaps light grey. And, like Glenn, I too, wood love to know when lines began being printed. You would think that a college grad with a minor in Graphic Communications would know that!
Randall W. Hawkinson
2021-09-17 14:36:07 +0000 UTCI prefer unlined, even though I write on a slant without lines.
Heather Torrey
2021-09-17 14:30:30 +0000 UTCNo lines. .....and the latest video on YouTube has a letter with no lines! Checkmate! Lol.

2021-09-17 14:24:54 +0000 UTCunlined use a ruler for writing for realistic works. What year did lines start appearing?

2021-09-17 14:17:02 +0000 UTCLightly lined. Just a hint of help for writing and drawing straight.

2021-09-17 14:06:00 +0000 UTCWhich would be more authentic?
