Hungry Critters Patron Update 1.4.0.0

Thank you to everyone who is still supporting this project. A lot of people want a lot of different things from me, and they all wanted them two months ago. I'm doing my best to clear my plate and make more time for Hungry Critters.

New Lotti Model

The focal point of this update is the new, high-fidelity Lotti the rabbit model. It now has eyelids, a mouth that isn't just a texture, and individual digits on hands and toes (including thumbs). Also, a light to help them see (and be seen) in dark places.

Lighting and Color Improvements

Less noticeable are some tweaks to the general lighting. Most importantly, the skybox is no longer washed out.

Game Page Backend

An issue has been fixed that required users to have to log in with Patreon every time they refreshed the page. Logging in should now only be required at most once a month (hopefully even less).

The game canvas is now fully centered on a black background. The credits will be added back inside the game later.

These changes have been made for both the public and patron shards.

Known Issues

I don't know if it happens for others, but the game hitches significantly when models are first displayed (or removed, for some reason). I'm assuming this is from the game compiling shaders on-the-fly, but Three.js seems poorly-documented on the subject of precompiling shaders, so fixing this will take some work and experimentation. In the meantime, the hitch mostly seems to happen the first time animations are played, so triggering them again should cause them to animate smoothly.

The reset option is still disabled, but fixing the function will now be a high priority as it's fairly important.

Playing Hungry Critters

Patrons can play this version here.

Predator tier patrons can download the source code from within the game with their Patreon account.

Comments

I haven't tested it in VR in a while, so did it just now on my Meta Quest 2. I am not able to test it on other devices currently. Performance is pretty choppy on this device, the pause menu doesn't display, and sounds don't play for some reason. VR is supposed to just be a bonus and not a focal point so its priority is low, but I'll try to look into it soon. On a VR device, you can access the game page in a XR-compatible browser like Chrome. When the game detects it is being accessed with a VR device, the option to display in VR will be available in the pause menu. Clicking this option will launch the game into an immersive VR session.

Is the game still playable in vr? If so, how would i go about running it?
