Thinking Time.

So it's been a while since I uploaded to the DTH Youtube channel. While there was some genuine reasons behind that (moving into a new unfurnished flat, pushing forward heavily with our Facebook livestreams and a limited amount of games that match our video formats), taking some time away from Youtube has given me a moment to contemplate on the way I run DTH.

I have always been focused and worried about keeping DTH active. Youtube directly push's channels that upload more and punishes channels that do not (we have lost roughly 2000 subscribers during this short break) but even when I have been doing my best to get 2-3 of our videos out a week, the channel has barely grown over the last 2 years. I think we have gained about 25k subscribers since 2016. Youtube is just in a state which does not promote or help channels that want to focus on quality, they want daily, clickbate bullshit Fortnite content and that's it. I also think my slight panic about missing out on uploads has lead to me creating content that isn't as strong as it can be.

I started the Rainbow Six Siege Myth series not because I wanted to but because it was popular and I needed a new series. While I was actually happy with the 2 videos we put together, the community had valid complaints that we just didn't know enough about the game, this was a symptom of rushing content to keep the channel active and I don't want to do this anymore.

I have decided I do not care anymore about Youtube numbers or even if the channel goes on to be huge and successful, I'm not going to worry about unsubscribers due to inactivity, I am just going to make content when I think it is ready and good. I'm in a fortunate position where we are being supported by Facebook to help them build a gaming platform, Youtube paychecks aren't important anymore and I really don't like the position the platform is. I refuse to twist DTH into the spammy machine it would need to be in for it to succeed in this space.

Videos are coming but there might be breaks in our content lineup when I don't think there are games out that we can cover to the quality I think is suitable for the channel. I understand if any Patreon pledges want to unpledge due to less content being delivered.

We have plans, I want to keep Game in a Game going, we have had a hard time scheduling episode 2 but that series will continue. I want to cover more Sea of Thieves as that game gets expansions and updates and I will be covering more Rainbow Six Siege but ONLY when new content is dropped, you guys have made it clear we are too far behind so we will be jumping back on that game when theres new fresh content/operators to experiment with. Finally we have 2 big games coming out this year, Battlefield V and Red Dead Redemption 2 which I will be going in on HEAVILY. I might try and piece together one last Battlefield 1 video too to see that series off but we are a bit spread thin on ideas.

Thank you guys for the patience, it can be difficult to keep motivated on a platform that really doesn't seem to respect your content but I like making these videos so I'm going to keep doing them, I'm just going to be waiting until the time/games are right for it.

Thanks for reading and the support.
