In addition to all of the reasons for its excellence, this show allowed me to witness another family grieve a complicated father/husband/man, and it helped me a bit in my own process. I'm glad to be revisiting it now through your eyes.

As part of their Funeral Director and/or Mortuary Science degree they have classes in psychology. They learn to develop the skills that are necessary to counsel grieving families and to handle the emotional aspects of funeral service, BUT they themselves are taught to NOT get emotionally involved and maintain a professional, non-emotional demeanor. About 5 years ago, I had a very detailed discussion with the relative of a friend, who is a funeral director and it was fascinating to learn about their training. I could share all kinds of information here, but perhaps not everyone would like that. And you asked about the noise from the body....yes, a corpse can make a raspy, groaning sound as air escapes their lungs. It happens for a variety of reasons.

This is my first rewatch, and I don’t remember much except that we get really invested in these complex characters and, as someone else mentioned, it has a supremely satisfying finale—which can be so tough for so many series. But just a couple of observations of mine: - That whole “30 year old high school students” thing used to drive me nuts too, especially when I was younger. But you know what? Knowing what I know now about how predatory the entertainment business is to young people, I say naw, let’s bring back adults playing teens, please - it’s a good thing actually! 😆 Idk if you know Katya the drag queen (of Trixie and Katya fame), but she says that if she became president, the first thing she’d do is make a law that there be no minors in films ever again - she said even babies, let me see that grown ass adult actor in a baby bonnet, crying for their binky! 😂😂 I’m pretty much the same way these days lol - The actress playing Brenda (Nate’s love interest) is Australian! I adore every choice she’s making in the part, and she does do a great job at the accent IN GENERAL. But it’s funny, I didn’t notice it watching before, but you can kinda hear that Aussie accent a little lurking underneath in some scenes 😜
