Start with a bang! By far, my favorite environment I created EVER! I mean... for me, it really looks incredible! No fancy lighting, just the 'sun' and already a great effect. Probably one of the most realistic models I dealt with in my dev career.
Ok, let's calm down and look at the new environment I put together. One of the main locations of the game both inside and outside. The main character will spend a lot of time in and around that building, so it has to look as good as possible. That's not the only requirement, though. It has to render relatively quickly as well.
And that was the main issue I've had. The model consisted of 80 million polygons! 80M! That's at least x15 of what any rendering software can handle (not counting the Unreal Engine). So every item seen (or not seen) in that render had to be put through polygon reduction and the final model has ~4 million which is acceptable. Putting characters in that environment will increase it significantly, but hopefully, enough to work with each scene without any annoying crashes.
Granted, there are still minor corrections I have to do, but the model seems 90% ready!
What do you think?
