Dev update #164
Added 2024-10-14 08:34:00 +0000 UTCHi!
I'm checking in with some more updates and, I'm happy to say, it's mostly all good news again!
First off, the script is fully completed, and all coding has been wrapped up! This means the backbone of my latest update is solidly in place.
On the animation front, things are moving along... quite well. I’m maintaining my target with around 100 animations, and I'm excited to share that 6 out of 8 scenes are now fully animated. The progress feels great, and seeing these scenes come to life is always rewarding.
Now for the big scenes: the 7th scene will be rendered in the cloud just like the others - no problems there. However, the final scene, which is the most pivotal so far, poses a bigger challenge. I’ve run into recurring issues with flickering lights and missing textures during tests. Typically, these can be traced back to conflicts where a light source intersects with geometry. Despite a complete redo of the lighting setup, the problem persists, leaving me no choice but to handle all the animations manually on my PC. This will truly test my 4090s, which I’ve been eager to push to their limits. I’m curious to see how they handle the job, and I’ll know more in the next couple of days once the rendering is complete.
If my GPUs perform as well as I anticipate, I may be able to move the release date from mid-November to early November. However, I'll still need to thoroughly playtest the update. The heist planning system tends to be buggy, and addressing those issues will be my next big focus. I'm optimistic and hoping to have the update ready for you soon!
Take care!

That was the final tech update for this episode. From now on, only news on testing, release schedule, and changelog! I render animations on RNDR - super cheap and reliable if you're careful with geometry and lights. But only limited to Octane Render. :)
