Maomao would now be eighteen the show doesn’t really tell us but she was 17 episode one and now that a year has passed she’s eighteen I think I remember you asking this last episode or the one before

I forgot that the kidnappers who took Maomao pretended to be her family to sell her to the palace. Those kidnappers were related to Fengming. So, Maomao was impacted by the mass termination in that way. The show casually reveals that Fengming was executed, and her whole family lost everything and faced physical punishment. This included women and children as well. This might explain why Maomao is very reluctant to directly accuse someone, even if she knows they are guilty. 🤐👨🏻👨🏻👧🏻👧🏻👨🏻👨🏻👧🏻 She doesn't want to carry that burden (though technically she is still somewhat responsible, but we don't want our cute anime girl protagonist to appear as a monster).
