So watching this scene again, and hearing about Luffy losing 10 years of his life for the treatment followed by his screams (as he's chained to the table), this reminds me strongly of the torture scene from The Princess Bride where Westley is getting worked over by the life siphon machine. I wonder if Oda took inspiration from that scene for this moment.

And all emporio ivankov did was bascally administer a hormonal vaccine, or something alike to it, one of the corona vaccines is like this. By manipulating hormones you can get them to activate better immune responses (using white blood cells etc) to battle a specific disease. But in this case its being used to allow luffy's immune system to battle the poison in hopes it wins, ivankov said destruction and resoration are both occuring at rapid rates now, which is exactly what happens in a battle between white blood cells and viruses. I could go into it a lot more, but its way beyond "metabolism" on this one since ivankovs power is genuinely miracle causing, to change hormones safely at that speed, he could cure and help a lot of people with that power, so its no wonder they are a kingdoms leader
