So honestly the dad may be a douche canoe but in both episodes he's mostly expressed fear for her safety and a desire to have her protected and it doesn't seem like its about control. He doesn't want her working solo because it was already dangerous with a partner. He's still being an ass about it but it definitely seems different from most other discouraging asshole dads, this one just seems overly protective and deprecating instead of straight abusive or neglectful.

Reader bias is a huge thing, thinking a character is stupid for not seeing what the author is showing you, but not them.

2021-04-18 21:25:15 +0000 UTCWhe it comes to Mark not getting certain clues, you also have to remember that you as watchers are seeing things that he doesn't so of course you notice things he doesn't no duh guys. You're not gonna sit there and lie to me and tell me that you noticed subtle things as teenagers especially during dire situations where there's a lot of adreniline. You guys aren't the ones who just got into a fight with a cyborg that could have put you back into the hospital and then get into a fight wiht your girlfriend where she broke up with you and then proceeded to fight three more of those cyborgs and get jumped while your friend almost died, so maybe paying attention to the subtle things Cecil is saying isn't the top of his priority at that moment. But also Mark is a dumb tennager like most who has a lot to learn so yeah he does make bad choices and it is pretty annoying so I agree with that.
