Daika wasnt weak, it was behind the times. That's happened plenty of times. Hell, it happened to the Germans in WW2. Do you know how much they relied on horse drawn wagons to pull stuff around? They couldn't even manage to fuel their military enough to rely on trucks to move things. Meanwhile the US army was fully mechanized, even across an ocean. There's a great moment in Band of Brothers that acknowledges this historical tidbit, when Webster stands up and yells at the column of surrendered germans, how ridiculous they are, they have horses.

2024-04-09 13:26:01 +0000 UTCI don't think the war is instigated by being X, I think he's just using it as a convenient meat grinder to toss tanya into. He does seem to be feeding blessings to some others, and ideas to the mad scientist though. Technology wise, this world is having its first world war at a point in time that would be between our two world wars, 1925, plus the slow burn conflict that's been going on explains the technology level.

In the Novel its clearer. He is also the first real soldier Tanyas loses as all the other "loses" were just drop outs of injuries but joins back later
