Me, a historian: Thats how it still is in undeveloped parts of the world, and throughout history. "Hey instead of fighting and killing each other, I'll give you my sister and she's yours to marry." Or "take these beautiful girls as concubines as a gesture of goodwill." Booty has always been option one in history - unless you had enough wealth to offer cash or its equivalent in goods.
