I know this is late but I am watching these and this episode is one of my favorites. It gets you an inside look of Subaru's depression and his state of mind before he ended up in the new world he is in. That entire story is just one big stage of depression. Depression can come in many many ways and have many forms. He had a feeling of emptiness and worthlessness due to his upbringing and heck sometimes the little things in life can get you to a point of depression and sometimes you don't even know how it happens but you just stop thinking positively. It is just one big display of subaru accepting himself and focusing on any positives he can have.
