y'all rewinded and still missed it. Tatsuya didn't use a shield at all, otherwise he wouldn't gotten shot. His field was a constant deceleration field to slow down the incoming bullets so that he has time to restore his body instead of getting sprayed with dozens of bullets at once. Also, if you remember, Tatsuya's powers are under lock by Miyuki, shown near the end of S1 where she kissed his forehead and unleashed his powers. In order to maintain this lock, Miyuki constantly uses some magic power to do so. What Tatsuya did was temporarily released the lock, which allowed Miyuki to fight at full strength.
